Aviatrix hires former Splunk CEO Merrit, Indiana cybersecurity director joins CISA, and HPE names CIO and new board director.

Cloud networking provider Aviatrix tapped Splunk’s former president and CEO of Splunk Doug Merrit, as chairman and chief executive officer. Merrit led Splunk from 2015 until 2021, following equity firm Silver Lake’s $1 billion investment in the security and observability firm.

Indiana’s cybersecurity program director Chetrice Mosley-Romero joined CISA as the first cybersecurity state coordinator for Indiana. She will continue to coordinate with local government entities to enhance cybersecurity protection. In a blog post announcing her new role, Mosley-Romero said she looks forward to helping local governments and organizations to “protect themselves, their communities, and our state.”

Hewlett Packard Enterprise named Rom Kosla as chief information officer. Kosla was chief information officer at retail giant Ahold Delhaize’s retail business services arm.

HPE also appointed Ixia’s former CEO Bethany Mayer to the board of directors, serving on the company’s technology committee. Mayer held senior roles at Apple, Cisco Systems, and Blue Coat Systems.

Southwest Airlines announced that Carrie Mills has become vice president, technology, cybersecurity following a promotion. During her tenure at Southwest since 2017, Mills presided over the creation of a continuously operating Security Operations Center and enhanced cybersecurity response measures. 

Network security provider Sonicwall appointed Spencer Starkey as vice president of EMEA Sales. Starkey has helped lead the EMEA Sales team at Sonicwall for the past three years, driving significant improvements in the distribution and partner ecosystem. 

Cybersecurity behavior change software company Hoxhunt hired Petri Kuivala as chief information security officer. Kuivala was previously vice president of general IT and user experience at NXP Semiconductors. Prior to NXP, he held senior roles at Nokia and Microsoft.

Software development hosting platform GitLab appointed Josh Lemos as chief information security officer. Prior to joining GitLab, Lemos held the same role at payments firm Block Inc., previously known as Square.

Cybersecurity software company AaDya Security appointed Tim Hankins as senior vice president of growth. Prior to joining AaDya, Hankins served as senior vice president of sales at DecisionLink.

Georgia Tech chief information security officer Leo Howell was appointed interim vice president for information technology and chief information officer. Howell will join the president’s cabinet and serve in this role until the permanent position of vice president is appointed, while continuing to serve in his current role at the university.

Rubrik, a cloud data management and data security company named Andres Botero chief marketing officer. Prior to joining Rubrik, he worked as BlackLine’s chief strategy and marketing officer.
